Automation from a business development slant.

  1. Energy & Power as Process Parameters

by on February 5th, 2013 at 03:55 PM (Automation Biz)
As an Automation Engineer, are energy (kWh) and power (kW) parameters that you measure in your process or machine? I've interacted with a lot of people lately in a variety of industries and applications that are realizing that just as they are measuring critical machine or process parameters such as temperature, pressure, level, flow, etc....it makes sense to also measure energy & power.

Picking up single or 3-phase power at a machine (with say SNAP-AIPM-3V modules), in a process ...

  2. Energy Data that Any Software Can Understand

This is more of a technical post than a "Biz" one...but there is a business aspect to it. And...as you may have noticed, most of my posts are related to #Energy (products, applications, market) these days.

Whether you are an Opto 22 customer, distributor or partner; I'm hoping you are well aware that the OptoEMU Sensor family of products now (with the V3.0 release) has the ability to send its energy data via the XML file format. This is big news...XML is a file format that ...

  3. Update on Recent Energy Activities

by on March 29th, 2012 at 11:58 AM (Automation Biz)
The last few months have been very exciting, with regard to activities in the Energy Efficiency space that I've been involved with. I thought I'd share a few of those with you.

I presented on "Internet Communications Technology" (ICT) at a DESC (Digital Energy & Sustainability Solutions Campaign) event hosted by Intel for memebers of the Chinese Government. The delegation was visiting the U.S. to learn how ICT is being used in energy efficiency projects.

Very interesting read. Check it out. If you're considering Energy Monitoring and want to see how someone else did it and what their experiences were. Note as well that these sharp folks are not automation engineers!

  5. Let Your Utility Pay for Your Energy Monitoring Equipment

by on August 26th, 2011 at 07:50 AM (Automation Biz)
In a recent meeting with a Program Manager at our utility, Southern California Edison (SCE), I learned something very interesting -- SCE will reimburse you for energy monitoring equipment you purchase! They pay $300 per kWh reduced, up to the full value of the hardware/software solution you bought.

The process is pretty easy (a simple form).

So, if you are an SCE customer, you can purchase one or more OptoEMU Sensors, associated Energy Monitoring SaaS, and it won't cost ...
