Profibus DP
I am interested in corresponding with anyone who has successfully implemented the Opto 22 Profibus DP module (SNAP-SCM-PROFI), with a Third Party Profibus slave (i.e. something other than the Opto 22 Profibus Brain).

I can be contacted via the forum or by email at asinha@opto22.com

Re: Profibus DP
I have successfully used the SNAP-SCM-PROFI to communicate and control a Dressler CESAR RF generator.

To get the communications to work, I used the Profibus DP master software, a free download available on the Opto 22 website at http://www.opto22.com/site/downloads/drilldown.aspx?aid=3488 . This tool comes with a program that allows the user to send the GSD file for the generator to the Opto hardware. The GSD will determine how the Opto hardware will communicate with the third party device. The tool also comes with a few PAC Control charts that can be imported into any PAC Control strategy. These charts will handle the Profibus communication. After importing the charts, all the user needs to do is modify the data to transmit block to include the commands the third party device requires. These commands can be found in the user manual of the third party device.

The experience went pretty well once I figured out what commands the device needed in what order to make the device react as I needed it to.

Thanks.
-Kelly
