All you ever wanted to know about OptoGSM I/O but were afraid to ask!
Hopefully the following clears up some of the confusion about what is and isn't possible with OptoGSM I/O. If anyone disagrees, please feel free to correct. G4PB8D-NOK can accept up to 3 digital inputs, using Opto G4 Digital Input Modules. Analog Inputs are not supported by this rack G4PB8M-NOK can accept up to 3 inputs (Digital using Opto G4 Digital Input Modules or Analog Inputs integrated on the rack). Independently of the inputs, both racks support up to 5 digital outputs using Opto G4 Output Modules ..Ch01 may be configured as a Digital Input or ....Analog Input 0 to 100 °C ICTD temperature input ..Ch02 and Ch03 may be individually configured as a Digital Input or ....Analog Input 0 to 5.4 VDC nominal full scale, adjustable from 3.0 to 7.0 V or ....Analog Input 0 to 10.8 VDC nominal full scale, adjustable from 9.0 to 11.3 V or ....Analog Input 4–20 mA nominal full scale Transmitters may be Sys Power (2 Wire Tx) or Ext Power (External 24V Supply or 4 Wire Tx) Calibration involves a signal calibrator and screwdriver. Using the Nokia30/Nokia31 Terminal on a GSM Network, current point status, all point status can be requested by SMS or AT commands. Alarm point trip, change of state alarms can be configured to be automatically sent. Analog values can be obtained, but will be returned as mV in a scale 0-5400, which must be converted to engineering scaling for a user. Pulse Outputs are supported when using Nokia Firmware v2.1. Note that the use of GPRS is incompatable with SMS and AT command mode. GPRS Applications must therefore use the Nokia M2M Gateway or customer written CORBA applications. In this case, the Nokia terminal will need to establish a GPRS session with the mobile operators servers. Forget the concept of simply calling the terminal phone number! Useful documents: Nokia GSM Connectivity Terminal: Product Guide 3.0 Nokia GSM Connectivity Terminal: Technical Spec Nokia GSM Connectivity Terminal: Guide for User Control Mode V2.1 Nokia GSM Connectivity Terminal: Guide for AT Command Mode Warning: It is strongly suggested that the Nokia30/31 Terminal and necessary SIM chip be purchased locally to avoid unpleasent surprises with network and SIM chip standards. If your mobile operator cannot supply this terminal, you will need help from Nokia locally to supply the terminal and obtain certification from the network. Any other information or experiences out there should be shared, as today this is a whole new ball game.

Free to good home:XRM-1 Adaptor Cables
Putting the G4PB8D-NOK or G4PB8M-NOK into a metal box for outside use will probably dramatically reduce the reception of the inbuilt antenna on the Nokia30 terminal. In this case you will probably need to add an external FME antenna. At this point you will finally figure out that the Nokia30 terminal has a "Nokia Compatible" connector for the antenna, which has been cleverly designed to not allow a connection to any antenna. You will then need to buy a nifty adaptor cable (Nokia part number XRM-1) that allows a male connector on a standard FME antenna to be used. The only problem is that its easier to talk to God, than to anyone in Nokia who knows anything about this, let alone can supply one. "Memorable Quote from Nokia: Sorry we only make phones" We have some 30 of these adaptor cables left over after a computer ordering system went wild, so if anyone wants one for free, just send an email to admin@optomation.es. First come, first served.
