PACProject Basic or Professional when developing end user apps

Ran into an interesting problem today that may seem obvious but maybe its not so obvious when it happens to you!  If you are an OptoIntegrator, OptoDeveloper or OptoEngineering Company, its important to check with the end user which edition he will be using before starting any development.

The choices are PACProject Basic downloadable from the web and supplied free with the PAC Hardware, or purchasing PACProject Professional to use advance features, the OPC server, database connectivity or support for legacy hardware.

Any software developed in the Basic Edition can be opened and upgraded into the Professional Edition, but not the reverse. So if you develop using the PAC Project Professional Edition, the control software cannot be opened, debugged or modified in the PACProject Basic Edition, even if no professional features were used.

So to avoid any surprises, embarrassing situations or unwanted costs, always ask which edition the end customer wil be using.

Just thought it was interesting to highlight that there are also the two corresponding display applications, PACDisplay Basic and PACDisplay Pro which allows connections to FactoryFloor Controllers and Secondary IP addresses for PAC Controllers.  Opening and then saving a Basic Display Project in the Professional PAC Display Configurator Professional Version will not allow it to be reopened in the Basic Version.
