Symptoms:

Random crashes in Runtime and sometimes in Configurator are caused by a bug in a Borland C++ Runtime library used to develop Display. A bug in cw3220.dll causes problems when the Display application allocates and de-allocates computer memory while running.

Workaround:

Replace the old version of the cw3220.dll with the correct version available from Opto 22. One way to inspect the version is by right-mouse clicking the file from File Manager and select Properties.

Run OptoVersion to find all copies of the dll and replace with the new cw3220.dll.

To run OptoVersion and to find all copies of cw3220.dll residing on your computer:

Start OptoVersion and click Find.

After OptoVersion has finished finding all Opto 22 files, click Save As... to save the file list as a text file on your computer.

Search the resulting text file, typically named Version.txt, with a text editor for all occurences of cw3220.dll. Replace all copies of the file with the corrected version.

For any version of PAC Display prior to version R8.2a:
Replace cw3220.dll in C:\Program Files\Opto 22\PAC ProjectXXX, where XXX is the PAC Project version.

For typical ioDisplay and OptoDisplay installations:
Replace cw3220.dll in C:\Windows(32)\SYSTEM32.

Resolution:

If your are currently experiencing random crashes in any Display versions prior to R8.2a, download the Display patch available from the Opto 22 web site and follow the steps as described in the WORKAROUND section of this article.
