DESCRIPTION

B3000 and B3000-B brains may sometimes report analog input readings  of -32768, an out of range value that has various causes. Below, are possible causes of this value and what you can do to correct the problem.

  • Low voltage to the mounting rack: Ensure the voltage is between 5.00 to 5.20 VDC between the '-' terminal and the far end of the fuse as shown below. Refer to Opto 22 form 1271 for more information about applying power to the mounting rack.

  • Electrical noise: Verify there is no electrical noise on the 5 VDC power to the rack.

 

  • Using the same 5 VDC power supply to power the rack and field devices: Use a separate power supply to power the brain (logic power), and a separate power supply to power the field devices (I/O side).

 

  • Thermocouple module reports -32768: May indicate an open thermocouple or poor thermocouple connection. Check the thermocouple wire connection to the module.

 

  • Bent pin or pushed up pin on the bottom module connector: Inspect the connector that connects the module to the mounting rack.

 

  • Failing or failed module: Substitute a known good module for the one in question.
