OptoServer running on Windows XP and Service Pack 2

Symptoms:

Controllers configured in OptoServer under Windows XP, Service Pack 2 or newer, are not available in OptoDisplay.


Workaround:

To resolve this issue, use the following instructions to modify some Windows Group Policy settings.

  1. Select Start?Run, and type: gpedit.msc then press ENTER
  2. .

  3. From the Group Policy window, navigate to the Remote Procedure Call window and make the selections as shown below.

    Note: If you cannot see the System folder, right-mouse click the Administrative Templates folder and select Add/Remove Templates. Click Add and select system.adm to restore the System folder.

  5. After making the above selections, close the Group Policy window and reboot your computer.
  6. After starting OptoServer, OptoDisplay should now be able to access the server configured controllers.
    • From the OptoDisplay Configurator Configure?Controller menu option, select the Add button, and open the strategy file used. From the Controller Properties window, click Browse to get the Select Controller window and click Add. Select type of connection to controller as Server, and click Next.
    • From the Configure Server Connection window, you have three ways to enter the computer name. You can type the name of the computer, you can manually enter the IP address of the computer, or you can use the Browse button to enter the computer name.
    • Note: Do not type part of the computer name or IP address and then try to use the Browse button to enter the computer name. This results in a message that says ‘OptoCDS is not running on’ when the Refresh button is clicked.

    • Click the Refresh button to display the controllers available on the selected computer. Select the controller that was configured in OptoServer , and click Finish.
    • Complete the controller selection process.
