Serial I/O units on same controller port may time out

Symptoms:

One or more serial I/O units may time out and go offline after using the Enable Communication to All I/O Units command when one or more serial I/O units on the same port are not available and do not respond back. As a result, the I/O unit is disabled by the host controller and a timeout error is posted to the controller's message queue.

This problem can also occur when a serial I/O unit goes offline or when a serial I/O unit is not available and the Enable Communication to I/O Unit is used. One or more of the connected and functioning I/O units may become disabled by the controller.
