groov Server for Windows cannot be accessed via localhost or IP address 127.0.0.1

Applies To:

groov Server for Windows
groov Server for Windows for SNAP PAC only

Versions Affected:

Problem affects: All versions of groov Server for Windows

Symptoms:

When you try to access groov Server for Windows using either the default host name (localhost) or the loopback IP address (127.0.0.1), you receive an SSL error or an error stating that the host cannot be accessed.

This situation indicates that another program is using port 443, which is the port groov normally uses.

Workaround:

There are two workarounds: change the port groov Server runs on, or stop/disable the other program that uses port 443.

Change groov Server port

To change groov's SSL port number, first consult with your IT manager, and then do the following:

  1. In Notepad or a similar program, open the jetty.conf file installed on the groov Server computer. Find the file in the directory where groov was installed (C:\Program Files (x86)\Opto22\groov\jetty, by default).
  2. Change only the port number in the file. Change it to 8443, unless that port is also already used.
  3. Save and close the file.
  4. Restart groov Server:
    • Open the Windows Control Panel and click Administrative Services.
    • Select groov Server.
    • Click Restart.

Stop or disable the other program running on port 443

  1. Locate the groov icon in your system tray (lower right), right-click it, and choose Stop groov Server.
  2. Open up a command line prompt (you will need administrative privileges). Enter netstat -ao and find the process ID (PID) that is running on port 443.
  3. Open the Windows Task Manager and click the Processes tab. Choose View > Select Columns and make sure the checkbox for PID (process identifier) is checked. Click OK.
  4. In the Task Manager click the PID column heading to sort. Locate the process that is running on port 443 and end it.
  5. Restart groov Server for Windows.
