In groov View, illegal address error or incorrect string may appear in Modbus tag

Applies To:

groov View running on:

  • GROOV-AR1,  GROOV-AR1-SNAP
  • GROOV-AT1, GROOV-AT1-SNAP
  • GROOV-SVR-WIN, GROOV-SVR-WIN-SNAP

Versions Affected:

R2.3a and higher

Resolved In Version:

R3.1a

Symptoms:

If you're using a string data type for a Modbus device, in groov View you may see a communication error mentioning an illegal data address. Or a Modbus tag that points to a string value near the end of the memory space may fail to show the correct string.

This issue may occur because in groov Build, the Modbus tag editor allows you to define a string data type tag address that, when combined with the length of the string, exceeds the possible memory space defined by the Modbus protocol (max 65536, 2 byte registers).

Workaround:

When configuring a string data type Modbus tag, be sure to factor in the space requirements of the string's characters.

Resolution:

Opto 22 has resolved this issue.
