Ethernet controllers and brains may reset if ‘Start PPP’ sent before PPP initialized

Symptoms:

Ethernet controllers or brains may reset if the Start PPP command is sent while PPP is initializing for the first time.

To reproduce the problem:

Disconnect the Ethernet brain or controller from any modem. This causes PPP initialization to take a very long time.

In ioManager, enable Outgoing PPP (Tools→Inspect, Communications→PPP Configure).

Enable PPP Link Always Connected.

Enter a phone number.

Store the configuration to flash and reset (Tools→Inspect, Status Write→Store Configuration to flash).

Wait approximately 10 seconds, then send the Start PPP command (Tools→Inspect→Communications→PPP Status).

The brain/controller may reset.

Workaround:

Do not send the Start PPP command until after PPP has finished initializing for the first time.

Resolution:

Opto 22 has resolved this issue.
