Resolved In Version:

Problem is fixed in: R7.1g

Symptoms:

Ethernet controllers or brains may reset if the Start PPP command is sent while PPP is initializing for the first time.

To reproduce the problem:

  1. Disconnect the Ethernet brain or controller from any modem. This causes PPP initialization to take a very long time.
  2. In ioManager, enable Outgoing PPP (Tools→Inspect, Communications→PPP Configure).
  3. Enable PPP Link Always Connected.
  4. Enter a phone number.
  5. Store the configuration to flash and reset (Tools→Inspect, Status Write→Store Configuration to flash).
  6. Wait approximately 10 seconds, then send the Start PPP command (Tools→Inspect→Communications→PPP Status).
  7. The brain/controller may reset.

  8. Workaround:

Do not send the Start PPP command until after PPP has finished initializing for the first time.
