PROCEDURE

Administrative or domain administrator privileges are required to perform the following operations. Domain administrators can configure these settings remotely and block the local machine administrator from modifying these settings.

  1. From Control Panel, select Windows Firewall. From the General tab, On turns on the firewall, and Off turns off the firewall.
  2. By default, the firewall blocks any application requesting the use of a system port below 1024. Opto 22 uses BOOTP to configure the IP Address. BOOTP is a UDP protocol that uses port 67 to receive requests.
  3. Once the firewall is enabled, click on the Exceptions tab. The following dialog box appears. Note, ioManager does not by default, appear in this dialog. This application must be added to the exceptions list.
  4. The exceptions list shown may be different based on prior configurations.

  5. To add ioManager to the exceptions list, click on Add Program. This brings up the available list of programs within the system. Highlight ioManager.
  6. If you have more than one ioManager entry, examine the Path text box for the correct executable path name.

  7. Click Change scope. Then select Any computer (including those on the Internet).

SUMMARY

Configuring IP addresses with ioManager sometimes presents problems due to the enabled Windows XP firewall. This article explains how to change the firewall settings to allow ioManager to configure Opto 22 Ethernet-based I/O units.
