Availability: In stock
OBSOLETE - SNAP Motion Control Breakout Board, 4 Axes, Stepper

Production Specification

NOTE: This product is obsolete when stock is depleted.

The SNAP-SCM-BB4 is part of the SNAP PAC Motion Control Subsystem of the SNAP PAC System. Working with the SNAP-SCM-MCH16 host communication module, this breakout board is equipped with a Magellan(TM) processor chip set that outputs pulse and direction signals for up to four stepper motor systems, under the direction of a SNAP PAC controller.

Up to four breakout boards can be daisy-chained and connected to a single module. The module’s external connector provides lines to power one breakout board; additional boards require a separate power source. The breakout board is designed to be mounted using a DIN-rail system.

For more information see form #1672, the SNAP PAC Motion Control Subsystem Data Sheet, under the Documents tab.

SNAP Motion Control Subsystem Data Sheet

The SNAP-SCM-MCH16 motion control host module is a serial communication module that links up to four SNAP-SCM-BB4 motion control breakout boards with a SNAP PAC brain or rack-mounted controller. When mounted on a SNAP PAC rack and connected to a breakout board, a single SNAP-SCM-MCH16 module allows a SNAP PAC controller running a PAC Control™ programming strategy to control up to 16 stepper motors.

SNAP PAC Motion Control User's Guide

This guide shows you how to install and use the SNAP PAC Motion Control Subsystem, which provides an integrated hardware and software toolset for controlling multi-axis stepper motors. The SNAP PAC Motion Control Subsystem consists of a SNAP-SCM-BB4 breakout board working with the SNAP-SCM-MCH16 host communication module and a free library of motion commands, which are used with Opto 22 PAC Control software.

Case Study: Upgrading Motion Control System

Since the introduction of G4 input/output modules in the mid-1980s, Opto 22 has sold millions. And 20 years later, these remain some of the company’s best-selling products. Like most Opto 22 modules, G4’s are guaranteed for life. In order to make this guarantee, the company must submit the modules to rigorous testing before they’re shipped to customers.

The G4 Handler is the machine used to perform these tests. When the 20-year-old servos on the G4 Handler needed to be replaced, an economical replacement could not be found. Instead, the G4 Handler’s servo motors were replaced with stepper motors.

Watch the G4 Handler video case study.

This case study describes how the SNAP PAC System Motion Control Subsystem was used with the new stepper motors to control module testing and gather test data.

Sample Motion Control Strategies

The Motion Control example strategies show how to achieve four different motion control maneuvers using OptoMotion commands in a PAC Control strategy. You can use the example strategies as a starting point for creating your own control strategies.
