groov discrete input channels may lose a value that is a multiple of 256

Applies To:

Firmware for the following groov I/O modules:

  • GRV-IAC-24
  • GRV-IACDCTTL-24
  • GRV-IACHV-24
  • GRV-IDC-24
  • GRV-IACI-12
  • GRV-IACIHV-12
  • GRV-IDCI-12
  • GRV-IDCSW-12
  • GRV-IDCIFQ-12

Versions Affected:

For the following modules, all versions lower than R1.3d:

  • GRV-IAC-24
  • GRV-IACDCTTL-24
  • GRV-IACHV-24
  • GRV-IDC-24
  • GRV-IACI-12
  • GRV-IACIHV-12
  • GRV-IDCI-12
  • GRV-IDCSW-12
For the following modules, versions lower than R1.3e:
  • GRV-IDCIFQ-12

Resolved In Version:

For the following modules, R1.3d:

  • GRV-IAC-24
  • GRV-IACDCTTL-24
  • GRV-IACHV-24
  • GRV-IDC-24
  • GRV-IACI-12
  • GRV-IACIHV-12
  • GRV-IDCI-12
  • GRV-IDCSW-12
For the following modules, R1.3e:
  • GRV-IDCIFQ-12

Symptoms:

On an affected module, if 2 or more channels in the same set of 8 channels (0-7, 8-15, or 16-23) are configured with the counting, period, pulse, or frequency measurement feature, you may observe a very rare instance of data loss. The type and amount of data lost depends on the configured feature:

  • For counters, the loss is 256 counts.
  • For period and pulse measurement features, the loss is 25.6 mS of the expected duration.
  • For frequency (one-time) measurements, the loss is 256 Hz.
  • For frequency (continuous) measurements, the loss is momentary (a single update cycle) and varies depending on the input frequency.
This issue is more likely to happen if you have many high-frequency signals that operate independently of one another on the same set of 8 channels.

Workaround:

Try the following options:

  • Avoid putting multiple high-frequency signals on the same set of 8 channels.
  • In your programming, filter for ongoing counters/pulses/periods decreasing instead of increasing.
  • For GRV-IDCIFQ-12 with firmware version R1.3d: If possible, use continuous frequency instead of one-time.

Resolution:
