Production Specification

When added to a groov EPIC® processor (GRV-EPIC-PR1 or GRV-EPIC-PR2) or groov RIO* (GRV-R7-MM1001-10GRV-R7-MM2001-10, or GRV-R7-I1VAPM-3), this groov SHELL license lets you access the Linux® operating system through a secure shell (SSH). You'll be able to develop, download, and run control programs built with languages like Python, C/C++, and Java.

*Requires groov RIO firmware 3.0 or higher.

TO OBTAIN AND INSTALL YOUR LICENSE:

  1. Add it to your cart and go to Check Out or contact Opto 22 at pcs@opto22.com or 951-695-3000, and order the license. If you are ordering online:
    • Cost is $0.00, but you will need to choose billing and shipping information.
    • Select “All other forms…” as Payment Method, and any Shipping Carrier with any account number.
    You will receive an order confirmation and then a separate email certificate with an Activation Key for the license.
  2. When you receive your Activation Key by email, log into your My.Opto account and follow the directions to activate the license. (For groov EPIC processors, activate the processor first, and then activate the license.)
  3. Download the license file.
  4. On a computer, log into your groov EPIC processor or groov RIO with an administrator account and upload the license file.

To use GROOV-LIC-SHELL, you must have a groov® EPIC processor (GRV-EPIC-PR1 or GRV-EPIC-PR2) or groov RIO* (GRV-R7-MM1001-10GRV-R7-MM2001-10, or GRV-R7-I1VAPM-3).

groov EPIC Processor Data Sheet

This data sheet describes Opto 22's groov EPIC® processors, part numbers GRV-EPIC-PR1 and GRV-EPIC-PR2, which are embedded Linux®, real-time controllers with gateway functions. The processor is your central command to your groov EPIC system, which handles multiple control, automation, and data acquisition tasks involving digital and analog control, serial string handling, PID, and enterprise connectivity.

The processor includes a high-resolution color touchscreen display. It provides USB and HDMI ports so you can extend its capabilities, as well as dual independent Gigabit Ethernet network interfaces.

Software tools include groov Manage, groov View, PAC Project, Node-RED, Ignition Edge® from Inductive Automation® , and CODESYS® Runtime Engine from CODESYS. Full use of some software tools requires a license; the following licenses are also covered in this data sheet:

groov RIO Universal I/O User's Guide

This user's guide shows you how to assemble, initialize, configure, commission, and maintain a groov RIO universal I/O module, part numbers GRV-R7-MM1001-10 and GRV-R7-MM2001-10. It is also helpful for groov RIO Learning Centers (GRV-RIO-LC and GRV-RIO2-LC). The guide explains how to:

  • Connect a power supply and wire field devices
  • Complete the first configuration steps after you turn it on (initialize)
  • Configure it to connect to networks, update network and security configurations, mount USB drives or USB adapters (to serial or WiFi devices), set up centralized user management through LDAP servers, set date and time, and more
  • Select and configure I/O channels and PID loops

Video: Secure Shell Access (SSH) Overview with groov EPIC

In this video you'll learn how to configure and get started with secure shell (SSH) access to the command line of the groov operating system (OS). The groov EPIC processor runs a custom embedded Linux distribution as its OS, which was put together using an EPIC-specific Yocto recipe. SSH gives you root access to the raw command line of this operating system, as well as all the files, programs, and programming options that it has onboard.
