SNAP-AIPM

Availability: Obsolete
OBSOLETE Single-Phase Power Monitoring Module

Production Specification

*** NOTE: This part is obsolete and no longer available when current stock is depleted. ***

SNAP-AIPM analog input module helps you measure and control power usage in your facility. The SNAP-AIPM module simultaneously measures single-phase volts AC RMS and amps AC RMS and calculates true power and volt-amps. Leading or lagging power factor can then be calculated from true power and volt-amp values.

Part of the SNAP PAC System, the module mounts on a SNAP PAC rack with a SNAP PAC brain or rack-mounted controller. Analog, digital, and serial I/O modules can all be on the same rack. Such an I/O unit is also well suited for PC-based control or for use as intelligent remote I/O for an Allen-Bradley Logix PLC system, such as ControlLogix, MicroLogix, or CompactLogix.

When these modules are used as part of a SNAP PAC System running a PAC Control strategy, the strategy logic can automatically perform the calculations and respond to problems.

Compatibility: SNAP-AIPM modules work with SNAP PAC brains and R-series controllers. They also work with legacy SNAP Ethernet-based brains.

NOTE: If you need to monitor 3-phase power, see the SNAP-AIPM-3 and the SNAP-AIPM-3V.

Build your system in the SNAP I/O Configurator.

SNAP Power Monitoring Modules Data Sheet

"*** NOTE: SNAP-AIPM and SNAP-AIPM-3V are obsolete and no longer available. SNAP-AIPM-3 is obsolete when current stock is depleted.  ***
Please contact Opto 22 Pre-Sales engineers for more information.

This data sheet describes the SNAP-AIPM, SNAP-AIPM-3, and SNAP-AIPM-3V analog input modules. These modules monitor AC voltage and current through a SNAP PAC rack-mounted controller or SNAP PAC brain.

The SNAP-AIPM monitors single-phase AC. The SNAP-AIPM-3 and SNAP-AIPM-3V monitor three-phase AC.

The SNAP-AIPM not only measures volts and amps simultaneously, but also calculates true power and volt-amps. From these values, you can easily calculate power factor. The SNAP-AIPM-3 and SNAP-AIPM-3V measure volts and amps and calculate true power and volt-amps for each of the three phases, and in addition calculate true power sums for all three.

Energy Monitoring for Profit: Introducing Demand Response

This white paper introduces the concept of demand response (DR) in energy management. DR offers an opportunity for industrial and commercial businesses to not just reduce energy costs, but also earn a revenue stream from their use of electrical energy.

The paper briefly discusses how electrical energy is produced and distributed in the United States and then describes four practical steps automation professionals can begin now to take advantage of DR programs in their area.

Pulse Energy Quick Start

Pulse Energy is an online service you can use to view data about your electrical energy usage. Support for Pulse Energy is integrated into the OptoEMU Sensor™; however, if you are not using the Sensor but acquiring energy data using the SNAP PAC System, you can still see that data through Pulse Energy.

This sample chart shows you how to move data from PAC Control into Pulse. Import the included chart into your PAC Control strategy to make integration with a Pulse Energy account easier. The included technical note, form 1992, shows you how to configure a Pulse Energy account and use the chart to visualize your monitored energy values.
