groov View: Trend gadget displays yellow triangle; information box reports a "groov Box or Server cannot be reached" message

Applies To:

groov View running on:

  • GROOV-AR1, GROOV-AR1-BASE, GROOV-AR1-SNAP
  • GROOV-AT1, GROOV-AT1-SNAP
  • GROOV-SVR-WIN, GROOV-SVR-WIN-BASE, GROOV-SVR-WIN-SNAP

Versions Affected:

R3.3a through R3.4c

Resolved In Version:

R3.5a

Symptoms:

When your groov project includes many trends (or several trends with long time periods—such as 5-year trends), eventually, newly created trends display a yellow triangle. When you click the triangle for details, the information box reports that the "groov Box or Server cannot be reached."

Looking in the logs will show communication errors that look like this:

2017-05-16T08:25:02+10:00 An exception occurred while handling /api/v0/data-logging/fetch-interactive
    ERROR  - com.opto22.groov.server.servlets.ApiServlet

...as well as errors with the background scanning service that look like this:

2017-05-16T08:20:44+10:00 An IOException occurred while trying to retrieve a buffer for {:tagId 32, :index 0, :retain 1051200, :update 60, :interactive true}

2017-05-16T08:20:44+10:00 java.io.IOException: Map failed
    ERROR  - com.opto22.groov.server.datalogging.BackgroundScanningService

Workaround:

Use a smaller number of trends in your project, or shorten the time periods used in the trends.
