Node-RED on groov devices running pre-4.0 firmware may encounter memory leaks and restarts when accessing groov devices running 4.1.0 firmware with new web server certificates

Applies To:

Firmware for the following groov EPICs:

  • GRV-EPIC-PR1
  • GRV-EPIC-PR2

Firmware for the following groov RIOs:
  • GRV-R7-MM1001-10
  • GRV-R7-MM2001-10
  • GRV-R7-I1VAPM-3

Versions Affected:

All versions prior to 4.0.0 to 4.1.1

Resolved In Version:

4.1.1

Symptoms:

When groov Manage is used to create new web server certificates on devices running firmware 4.1.0 and higher, it may cause Node-RED on groov devices running firmware 3.6.1 and lower to unexpectedly restart or experience memory leaks. This occurs when using Opto 22 nodes (node-red-contrib-pac, node-red-contrib-groov, and node-red-contrib-groov-io) to access data from the groov devices running firmware 4.1.0 or higher.

This issue is related to known Node.js bugs. For more information, see tickets 37757 and 37990.

Workaround:

Upgrade any groov devices running firmware versions 3.6.1 and lower to firmware version 4.0.0 or higher.

Resolution:

Opto 22 has resolved this issue.
