This webinar demonstrates how to build a unified namespace (UNS) using real industrial automation equipment and MQTT technology. Arlen Nipper from Cirrus Link Solutions, along with Benson Hougland and Dan White from Opto 22, present a comprehensive approach to implementing UNS architecture. The session covers three live demonstrations: machine monitoring using groov RIO devices, facility energy monitoring with groov RIO EMUs, and legacy PLC integration using groov EPIC controllers. Key technologies showcased include MQTT Sparkplug B protocol for efficient data transmission, Ignition platform for data modeling and visualization, and integration with cloud platforms like Snowflake for analytics. The presenters emphasize the importance of contextualizing data at the edge, creating digital twins using UDTs (User-Defined Types), and establishing secure, real-time data flows from operational technology to enterprise systems. A case study from Moriroku Technology North America illustrates how this architecture enabled a tier-one automotive supplier to unify data from over 100 injection molding machines across four facilities, eliminating manual reporting and providing real-time production visibility. The webinar concludes with discussions on the security benefits of MQTT's publish-subscribe model and the scalable nature of this UNS approach for digital transformation initiatives.
