groov discrete input channel may report inaccurate counts or totalization or miss a measurement

Applies To:

Firmware for the following groov I/O modules:

  • GRV-IACI-12
  • GRV-IACIHV-12
  • GRV-IDCI-12
  • GRV-IAC-24
  • GRV-IACDCTTL-24
  • GRV-IACHV-24
  • GRV-IDC-24
  • GRV-IDCIFQ-12
  • GRV-IDCSW-12

Versions Affected:

For the following modules, R1.3a to R1.3c:

  • GRV-IACI-12
  • GRV-IACIHV-12
  • GRV-IDCI-12
  • GRV-IAC-24
  • GRV-IACDCTTL-24
  • GRV-IACHV-24
  • GRV-IDC-24
  • GRV-IDCSW-12
For the following modules, all versions prior to R1.3e:
  • GRV-IDCIFQ-12

Resolved In Version:

For the following modules, R1.3d:

  • GRV-IACI-12
  • GRV-IACIHV-12
  • GRV-IDCI-12
  • GRV-IAC-24
  • GRV-IACDCTTL-24
  • GRV-IACHV-24
  • GRV-IDC-24
  • GRV-IDCSW-12
For the following modules, R1.3e:
  • GRV-IDCIFQ-12

Symptoms:

For the affected modules, if the module is alone or there is no more than one other non-simple1 module on the chassis, channels configured with the following features may, on very rare occasions, display the listed symptoms:

  • Counting or on/off totalization features—A slightly inaccurate value for time totalization or a rare missed or duplicated count. Over large numbers of counts/amounts of time, the inaccuracy does not exceed 2%.
  • Period or pulse measurements—The channel may not report a completed data collection cycle; however, it will set the completed status after the next period or pulse. If you are watching the period or pulse in PAC Control Debug mode, you'll see the value increasing while the period or pulse is in progress, but when it ends, the pulse time returns to 0.
  • Frequency (one-time) measurements—(Accessible only via the memory map. Does not apply to continuous frequency feature.) The channel may take longer than expected to report a measurement.

1 Non-simple modules are modules that support more than one feature. For example, GRV-IAC-24 supports multiple features (on/off state, on/off latching, on/off totalization, and more as listed in the Features table of its data sheet). Its simple counterpart, GRV-IACS-24 supports only one feature: on/off state.

Workaround:

Install a minimum of three non-simple modules on the groov EPIC chassis.
