00:03
In this video workshop we will review the software settings and hardware
00:08
requirements for using a HDMI touchscreen with this groov EPIC
00:12
learning center which is useful for training and proof of concepts. Now you
00:16
can use just about any HDMI monitor to display the groov View project that you
00:21
built, from monitors to large screen TVs even projectors with a simple HDMI input
00:27
port. But, when it comes to touchscreens you need to make sure that yours is a
00:32
projected capacitive touchscreen and has a USB interface for the touch control.
00:37
More on that in a moment. We've got just such a monitor here in
00:41
the workshop so let's take a look at some of the software options and how to
00:45
connect the monitor to the groov EPIC. From your groov Manage home screen click
00:51
on system and then display. Let's take each option in turn. First you have the
01:00
option to turn the HDMI port on or off totally. If you're only ever going to use
01:04
the front touch screen on the groov EPIC then you can turn this off but I'm going
01:09
to leave it on since I'm about to connect this monitor. Next is orientation
01:13
you can set up your external monitor in landscape which is the usual orientation,
01:19
but, if you have a more narrow location for your external monitor then you can
01:23
also set up groov EPIC to display either portrait left or portrait right if you
01:28
need to flip the monitor for better cable management. Next is the optional
01:33
mouse cursor. You can simply choose to show it or not. Now this is largely
01:37
personal preference, but, I find it helps the operator know where they are
01:41
touching by locating the mouse pointer under their finger. Lastly we have the
01:46
screen power management options. Now this option is just for the touchscreen on
01:51
the front of the groov EPIC only not the external HDMI monitor. But, while we're
01:56
here if we want to turn the front screen on or off then you enter the time out in
02:02
minutes. If you want the front screen to be running continuously then simply
02:06
disable a power management. If you make any changes to these options on this
02:11
page don't forget to click Save up in the top corner.
02:16
Now when you do the screen driver will restart and you'll be prompted to log
02:24
back in again. The last setting you need to consider is what application you want
02:29
to run as soon as you log in from your groov Manage home screen. Click on system
02:36
then settings. Here you can choose between launching into groov Manage or
02:42
groov View as soon as you log in. If you're running an external screen you
02:47
probably want to launch groov View as soon as you log in just select your
02:52
option and click on save. Hooking up the hardware is as simple as first
03:00
connecting the USB cable to one of the two USB ports on the groov EPIC
03:06
processor. Next connect the HDMI cable.
03:13
The front screen will go off and you'll be prompted to login on the external
03:19
Monitor. Go ahead and login.
03:29
If you're using a monitor without touch then simply plug in a USB keyboard to
03:34
login. So there you have it how to configure the hardware and software
03:38
options and connect your external HD mi monitor or touch screen to the groov
03:43
EPIC processor.
