00:01
Gudday,
00:05
Ben here. In this groov your AB video I will show you how you can quickly build and
00:10
view
00:11
mobile interfaces for your Rockwell Automation controllers
00:14
to do this I'm gonna need three things: groov Server for Windows,
00:19
a tag server that connects to Allen Bradley PLCs
00:22
and my AB CompactLogix 5370 PLC
00:27
it's a simple three-step process, first
00:30
I'll import our tags from my PLC into my tag server
00:34
I'll be using Kepware's KepServerEX
00:37
installed on a Windows computer. Second, I'll
00:40
add the tag server in groov Build and import the tags
00:44
and third, I'lll attach gadgets to those tags
00:47
then save and view the data in my desktop web browser
00:51
and on my samsung galaxy s4 smartphone
00:54
So, if you're ready, let's get started! I'm going to remote desktop to Windows 7 PC
01:00
I've already downloaded and installed Kepware's KepServerEX
01:04
free trial that will run with all features and drivers
01:08
for two full hours just like groov server for Windows
01:12
so together it's the perfect way to trial
01:15
all steps in this video for free, let's open up KepServer's
01:20
configurator, now click on new channel
01:23
and give it a name, I'm gonna call it Control Logix
01:27
from the top 10 driver list I'm gonna choose
01:30
Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Ethernet but you know what
01:35
before I move on just take a look at all the other drivers supported
01:39
all of the systems are now compatible with groov and this means that
01:45
whilet this video is covering a AB PLCs connected to groov
01:49
these three steps apply largely to anything
01:52
on this list, ok I got a little excited there
01:56
but let's get back to work. click on next and if you have more than one network
02:01
interface card be sure and select the one that the
02:03
AB controller is on, go ahead and select the defaults for all remaining
02:08
dialogs
02:09
okay now that the channel is created let's go ahead and
02:12
add a device click on "add device"
02:15
and let's give it a name, in this case I'm gonna call it CL5370 for my PLC here
02:21
select the device the ID
02:24
is the IP address, accept the defaults on the next few dialogs
02:31
but on this dialog here let's have KepServer
02:35
automagically create the tag database every time it starts up
02:39
and that way if I add any new tags to my AB device
02:43
I can add them to groov without having to type them in manually
02:47
So that's it I'm done with step 1
02:51
Now let's automatically import those tags
02:54
into groov I'm gonna flip over and use the Mac now
02:58
Now I'm using my favorite browser Chrome but I could just as well be using
03:02
any modern browser like Safari on the Mac or Internet Explorer running on
03:06
Windows
03:07
or Firefox on Linus or well anyway you get the idea, let's make sure though
03:12
when you go into groov make sure you log in with admin rights
03:16
okay now let's switch to groov Build
03:20
by clicking on the gear icon and select switch to groov Build
03:24
no quick configure devices and tags
03:28
first we have to add our tag server
03:31
I'm gonna call it AB tags, next I simply
03:37
import the tags from that server by clicking on import tags:
03:40
Boom! that's it I'm done with step 2
03:44
now the last step is the really fun part
03:47
building our page in groov with no programming
03:50
First of all click on the button gadget from the
03:54
gadget pallet and let's drag that over
03:57
let's select the AB tags then imported tags:
04:01
then ControlLogix then the device then global
04:04
there's our digital point click it and then click
04:08
update gadget let's give the button a name
04:11
I'm going to call it LED and we can change the colors if we like
04:15
I'm going to go to red and that's it we're done
04:18
so let's try it out, click on File, Save all changes
04:22
and switch to groov View okay now you know me
04:25
if there's a button I just have to click it
04:29
yep it works a ripper
04:32
Ok so now let's hook up a guage to a variable
04:35
in the ControlLogix, go back to groov
04:39
and click on the gadget pallet
04:42
and let's select the tags tab this time drill down to the tag we want
04:47
and when you highlight the tag you can now select the guage gadget
04:52
drag that over and we're done you know what while we're here
04:56
let's throw an image on the page as well select the image gadget
05:00
Browse for the image and that's it too easy
05:04
ok, let's save the project and check it out
05:08
so here it is on my browser let's check it out on my android smartphone
05:16
Yep there we go, looks and works just awesome
05:20
How easy is that? KepServer automatically imported
05:24
all tags for my AB PLC and groov automatically imported
05:29
all the same tags, it was simple then to hook up those tags to gadgets
05:34
and don't forget groov automatically built the mobile pages
05:38
while I built the desktop pages, we did not have to manually type out
05:42
any tag names or write a single line of code
05:46
groov your AB it's a simple as 123
05:49
