Hi. In this groov workshop on working with
colors, we'll encourage you to explore your
00:09
dark side, or at least, take a look at some
of the additional color options available
00:13
for your pages and gadgets. Now if you're
NOT seeing all these colors, make sure that
00:19
you are running version 2.2 or newer on your
groov Box or groov Server for Windows. If
00:24
you are seeing this icon in the upper right
corner it means that there is a newer version
00:29
of groov available on manage.groov.com. Otherwise,
you're only going to see these, pre-2.2 options
00:37
which paled in comparison to the newer color
options. Now, why would you want all of these
00:42
additional colors? Colors not only give your
project a well designed look, but will enhance
00:48
the user’s experience by making important
gadgets and data stand out. You may also need
00:54
a darker background if your operators are
in a dimly lit work environment, like a laboratory
00:59
for example. Conversely, if your mobile operators
are working outdoors, you may want to use
01:03
lighter background colors to reduce glare.
Or you might want to use a certain color for
01:08
branding -- perhaps you want to choose a color
that is close to your particular corporate
01:13
colors, like so. Also, notice when changing
between these dark colors here on the bottom
01:18
couple of rows and the lighter colors on top,
you’ll see that the colors for some gadgets
01:23
automatically change. Did you see that?
This happens for trends, round gauges, buttons,
01:29
check boxes, …, …, and …. This is
done to help make sure your gadgets remain
01:34
clearly visible and do not get lost on the
page. When selecting colors, keep in mind
01:39
high-performance HMI concepts, which we cover
here on the groov.com website under: Why groov?
01:47
High-performance HMI. Here you’ll find an
excellent white paper which discusses design
01:52
considerations like color blindness and making
sure the screen is not so busy that the user
01:57
has to hunt to find the information they need.
Do you have a project design that you are
02:03
particularly proud of? We’d love to see
it! Send us a screenshot or upload it to the
02:08
forums. Happy coloring! For more videos, visit
