PCI-AC51

Availability: Obsolete
OBSOLETE - PCI Adapter Card for PAMUX

Production Specification

This product is Obsolete and no longer available.

The PCI-AC51 is a high-speed adapter card designed to link Opto 22 I/O to PCI-compatible computers for PC-based control using the Pamux protocol. Each PCI-AC51 can access up to 512 points of I/O along a Pamux bus of up to 500 feet in length.

The PCI-AC51 is ideal for customers who have been using Opto 22's AC28 adapter card but must upgrade to a newer computer that uses the PCI bus instead of the ISA bus. (This card replaces the PCI-AC28, which is obsolete.)

The card is compatible with the following brains (I/O processors):
  • SNAP-B4 (SNAP 4-channel digital I/O)
  • SNAP-B6 (SNAP analog/digital I/O)
  • B4 (G4 or Quad Pak digital I/O)
  • B5 (G4, G1, Quad Pak, or integral digital I/O)
  • B6 (G1 analog I/O)
For stations on a Pamux bus to operate correctly, both ends of the bus must be terminated. The host computer and the last Pamux station on the bus are the only devices that should be terminated. Because termination resistors are built into the PCI-AC51, the host computer is automatically terminated. Use part number TERM 1 or TERM 2 (shielded cable) for the last Pamux station. See the Pamux User's Guide for more details.

Use the PAMUX Systems SDK with this adapter card.

For system diagrams and compatible I/O, see the PC-Based I/O Control Overview.

PCI-AC51 and PCIe-AC51 Adapter Card Data Sheet

The PCI-AC51 [Obsolete] and PCIe-AC51 [Obsolete] are high-speed adapter cards designed to link the Pamux® bus to PCI-compatible or PCI Express-compatible computers.

  • The PCI-AC51 [Obsolete] is compatible with a standard PCI bus.
  • The PCIe-AC51 [Obsolete] is compatible with PCI Express.

PCI-AC51 and PCIe-AC51 User's Guide

*** These products are Obsolete. ***

The PCI-AC51 and PCIe-AC51 are high-speed adapter cards designed to link the Pamux® bus to PCI-compatible or PCI Express-compatible computers.

  • The PCI-AC51 is compatible with a standard PCI bus.
  • The PCIe-AC51 is compatible with PCI Express.
The Pamux Systems SDK is included with purchase of either card. This user's guide covers installation and use of both cards and the SDK.

NOTE: These cards replace the older PCI-AC28.

PC-Based I/O Overview

This document shows examples of system architecture for PC-based I/O control systems and lists Opto 22 products that work together for PC-based control. System examples include:

  • Ethernet systems using SoftPAC, a software-based programmable automation controller programmed with PAC Control
  • Ethernet systems using the OptoMMP protocol
  • Direct control of I/O using no I/O processor (no brain)
  • High-speed control using the Pamux protocol
NOTE: Before choosing to use a PC for control, consider groov EPIC.  A groov EPIC processor offers many features similar to a PC, such as a Linux OS with optional secure shell access; cybersecurity features; Ethernet, USB, and HDMI ports; and the ability to run the control program and HMI on the same hardware. In addition, a groov EPIC system offers real-time control using traditional programming languages; guaranteed-for-life I/O on the same chassis; industrial toughness for hazardous locations; and easier integration with company computer networks, manufacturing, business, and facility systems, and cloud-based services & software.
