OBSOLETE SNAP 2-Ch Wiegand Interface Serial Communication Module

Production Specification

*** NOTE: This part is OBSOLETE and no longer available when current stock is depleted. ***

The SNAP-SCM-W2 provides two isolated channels of data input from attached devices that comply with the Wiegand interface format. The module complies with the Security Industry Association Standard Protocol for the 26-bit Wiegand Reader Interface and is ideal for access control applications using that protocol.

Part of the SNAP PAC System, the module mounts on a SNAP PAC rack with a SNAP PAC brain or rack-mounted controller. Analog, digital, and serial I/O modules can all be on the same rack. Such an I/O unit is also well suited for PC-based control or for use as intelligent remote I/O for an Allen-Bradley MicroLogix PLC system, or other RSLogix-based system, such as ControlLogix or CompactLogix.

NOTE: The module is also compatible with legacy SNAP Ethernet, SNAP Simple, and SNAP Ultimate I/O.

Build your system in the SNAP I/O Configurator.

SNAP Wiegand Module Data Sheet

Ideal for access control applications, the SNAP-SCM-W2 serial communication module provides two channels of data input from attached devices that comply with the Wiegand interface format. The module works with analog/digital/serial SNAP PAC controllers and brains, SNAP Ultimate and SNAP Ethernet brains, and SNAP-IT units.

SNAP Serial Communication Modules User's Guide

The SNAP-SCM-232, SNAP-SCM-485-422, SNAP-SCM-PROFI, SNAP-SCM-W2, SNAP-SCM-CAN2B, and SNAP-SCM-ST2 serial communication modules are designed for use with the SNAP PAC System and can also be used in standalone SNAP I/O units.

Each of these modules conveniently provides serial data at a remote Ethernet location.

  • The SNAP-SCM-232 and SNAP-SCM-485-422 typically interface with printers, scales, chart recorders, and barcode systems.
  • The SNAP-SCM-PROFI provides a standard electrical interface with PROFIBUS DP® networks.
  • The SNAP-SCM-CAN2B provides an interface to a Controller Area Network (CAN), so your SNAP PAC system can receive data from CANbus devices.
  • The SNAP-SCM-ST2 provides pulse and direction signals for stepper motor drives.
  • The SNAP-SCM-W2 complies with the Wiegand interface format and is used for access control applications.

Technical Note: Door Access Manager

This technical note introduces two sample applications for use with SNAP-SCM-W2 (Wiegand) serial modules and SNAP Ultimate I/O: an ioControl strategy that configures modules and handles up to 16 doors, and a utility program for managing user names and entry permissions.

CE Declaration: Low Voltage

This document is the Manufacturer's Declaration for the listed products as mentioned in the attachment - to which this confirmation refers - that they are in accordance with the mentioned European, international and/or national standards and regulations.

ioDoor Access Manager

ioDoor Access Manager is a sample utility program for use with SNAP-SCM-W2 serial communication modules. These modules comply with the Security industry Association Access Control Standard Protocol for the 26-bit Wiegand(R) Reader Interface.

The utility program, written in Visual Basic, manages user names and entry permissions. It is designed to be used with the sample ioControl strategy Door Control, which is a separate download.
